Robert (“Bob”) McKerness Foster, Jr.

Founder | In Memoriam (1922–1998)

Robert “Bob” McKerness Foster, Jr. was a Florida attorney, community leader, military veteran, and the founder of the practice that is today Foster & Fuchs, P.A. Born in Washington, D.C., on January 13, 1922, Mr. Foster moved with his family to Palm Beach County, Florida, in 1926, establishing roots in the community he would serve throughout his life and career. During World War II, Mr. Foster served his country as a Captain in the United States Army Counter Intelligence Corps. Following his military service, he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Emory University and his Juris Doctor from Stetson University College of Law in 1949.

Mr. Foster began practicing law in Palm Beach County in 1950 and practiced there for nearly five decades. Over the course of his career, he was admitted to practice before all Florida courts, the United States District Court for the Southern District of Florida, the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit (which included Florida until the Eleventh Circuit was created in 1981), and the Supreme Court of the United States.

Mr. Foster was an active member of the American Bar Association, The Florida Bar, and the Palm Beach County Bar Association. His peers elected him President of the Palm Beach County Bar Association in 1963. In 1967, after practicing with the firm of Caldwell, Pacetti, Foster & Barrow, Mr. Foster established his own law firm in Palm Beach County — the practice that continues today as Foster & Fuchs, P.A. The principles he instilled, including professional excellence, personal service, ethical advocacy, and commitment to clients, remain the foundation of Foster & Fuchs, P.A. today.

Beyond the practice of law, Mr. Foster devoted substantial time and energy to civic, educational, and charitable organizations. He served on the Board of Trustees of Wesleyan College in Macon, Georgia, from 1970 through 1981 and contributed his leadership to numerous community organizations, including the Palm Glades Girl Scout Council, YMCA, American Legion, American Red Cross, American Cancer Society, and Community Chest.

Mr. Foster passed away on September 5, 1998, leaving behind a remarkable legacy of service to his profession, his community, his clients, and his family. Nearly six decades after he founded the firm, Foster & Fuchs, P.A. continues to honor his vision by providing legal counsel with the same dedication, integrity, and personal attention that defined his career. His influence remains a guiding force within the firm and an enduring part of its identity.

The legacy established by our founder, mentor, father, grandfather, and friend continues through the attorneys and staff of Foster & Fuchs, P.A., who remain committed to the values of professionalism, service, and excellence that Robert McK. Foster embodied throughout his life.
